Garden and Yard Management Tips 1

Finally, spring has sprung in Chicago as well. It's now the season to adorn the yards around the house and spruce up the home. Not only when selling a house, but yard management, especially curbside appeal, sets the first impression for visitors to the house.

So, let's share some tips on how to manage the yard and curbside effectively.

Let's start with easy ways to upgrade the important curbside appeal when selling a house:

1.) First, the lawn must be well-mowed. An unkempt lawn with overgrown grass makes the house look messy. In this Chicago area, it's usually best to mow the lawn every two weeks, and during rainy seasons, once a week for a tidy look.

2.) Trim all dead branches from trees around the house. Spring, summer, and fall are times when trees are adorned with leaves. During this time, visible branches should ideally have leaves and flowers. But if there are dead branches, it creates an incomplete picture. Therefore, if there are dead branches on the house's trees, boldly trim them.

3.) Neatly tidy up Box trees if you have them. Well-trimmed Box trees in attractive shapes enhance the appearance of the house. On the other hand, Box trees with protruding branches make the house's first impression as messy as broken windows in a building. Therefore, make sure to tidy up the Box trees in spring.

4.) Maintain the deck. By taking a day each year to pressure wash, repair shaky parts, and repaint the deck, you can have a clean deck that looks newly made every year. Even if it's bothersome, make sure to pay attention to it once a year.

5.) Lay down new mulch. Mulch provides a noticeable green color between the yard, flowers, and trees, giving a sharp contrast that makes the house look more appealing. Moreover, when mulch is laid down to the recommended thickness by professionals, weeds don't grow well in that area. So, your house can look attractive all year round. Therefore, even if it's bothersome, lay down fresh mulch every spring.

I've listed a few yard management tips that can significantly improve the first impression of your house with just a day or two of investment. In the next post, we'll delve into more specific ways to manage each aspect.
