Updating the Bedroom Without Spending a Lot of Money - Part 1

Typically, when you want to change the atmosphere of your home or prepare it for sale, you focus on updating the kitchen and bathroom.

However, updating these areas can be quite costly.

On the other hand, making small updates to the bedrooms can significantly change the atmosphere of the house. Even when selling your home, updating the bedrooms can give buyers the impression that they can customize the kitchen and bathroom to their liking.

  • Floor-to-Ceiling Sheer Curtains

Sheer curtains are inexpensive and easy to install. Once hung, they create a soft, diffused light that enhances the atmosphere of the room. To blend well with existing curtains or blinds, it's recommended to choose white or light ivory colors.

  • Accent Wall

Creating an accent wall can dramatically change the atmosphere of a room, especially if the overall color scheme is neutral. According to Pamela O'Brien, founder of the interior design company Palema Hope Designs, the focal point of a bedroom is usually the bed and the wall behind it. Therefore, positioning the accent wall behind the bed is crucial for maintaining visual balance in the room.

There are two ways to create an accent wall:

  • Paint: If you prefer bold patterns or designs on your bedding, painting a solid color accent wall is recommended. Simply buy a small can of paint that contrasts with the wall color and paint the desired section.

  • Wallpaper: If you prefer patterned bedding, consider using wallpaper for the accent wall. Choose a wallpaper with a subtle pattern or design and apply it to the wall behind the bed.

  • Stylish Nightstand Lamps

Replace ordinary bedside lamps with stylish ones that complement the room's atmosphere. For a serene ambiance, consider lamps with copper or gold-toned metal bodies or wooden bases. For a more contemporary feel, opt for lamps with dark colors or silver-toned bodies.

If the lamp's body is white, it may not stand out as much, making it less effective in changing the room's atmosphere.

In the next article, we will continue to explore ways to significantly change the atmosphere of a room with minimal investment.
